Adult Protective Services

Welcome to La Crosse County Adult Protective Services (APS), where we are committed to safeguarding vulnerable adults facing abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation. Our primary function is to conduct thorough investigations into these concerns, ensuring the safety and well-being of elders and adults-at-risk within our community who are unable to protect themselves.

 Who We Serve:

  • Elders: Individuals aged 60 and above who have experienced, are currently experiencing, or are at risk of experiencing abuse, neglect, or self-neglect. 
  • Adults at risk: Individuals aged 18-60 with physical, cognitive, mental, or other impairments that place them at risk of abuse, neglect, or self-neglect.

What We Do:

  • Adult Protection: We address safety concerns and provide intervention and advocacy for those in need.
  • Outreach and Education: We strive to raise awareness, promote prevention, and educate the community about adult protection issues.
  • Guardianship/Protective Placement: We process guardianship and protective placement orders to ensure the welfare of vulnerable individuals. 

Making a Report:

To submit a report of abuse or neglect please contact APS at 608-785-5700. 

Our dedicated staff will review your report and initiate appropriate follow-up and investigation. We treat all information confidentially, respecting the caller's right to privacy throughout the call and investigative process.

Please note our department may be reached during our regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8 am - 4:00pm). *For immediate, life-threatening emergencies, please call 911 to request police, fire, and/or ambulance to respond.
