Mental Health Chapter 51

Description:

Provides support to children with a serious to severe mental health issue voluntary or involuntary under Chapter 51 - Mental Health Act.

Support and services available (based on child needs):

  • Support and service coordination.
  • Utilize the informal supports of the family.
  • Link to community supports.
  • Link to support services, counseling, daily living skills, respite, and others.
  • Crisis support services.

Eligibility:

  • Child must be a resident of La Crosse County.
  • Ages birth to 17 years.
  • This is a court administered process.

There is no parental fee.

Children's Mental Health Support Services

Description:

Provide supports to children with a moderate mental health issue including chemical dependency.  Generally the length of this program is 18 months. 

Support and services available (based on child needs):

  • Support and service coordination.
  • Utilize the informal supports of the family.
  • Link to community supports.
  • Link to support services, counseling, communication and interpersonal skills training, community skills development and enhancement, respite, and others.
  • Crisis support services.

Eligibility:

  • Child must be a State of Wisconsin resident for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Child must be a resident of La Crosse County.
  • An eligible level of care must be established by the Children's Functional Screen.
  • A mental health diagnosis is required.
  • Ages birth to 17 years.

There may be a parental fee.

How to make a referral.
A referral does not guarantee a child will receive formal services which may be limited based on funding availability.  Some families may have their needs met through informal supports.

 

Comprehensive Community Services

Description:

Supports children with moderate to serious mental health issues.  The length of the program can be long term or short term determined by the individual need of the child.  In the event the child needs long term care transition supports are available when the child turns 18. 

Support and services available (based on child needs):

  • Support and service coordination.
  • Utilize the informal supports of the family.
  • Link to community supports.
  • Link to support services, counseling, communication and interpersonal skills training, community skill development and enhancement, and others.
  • Crisis support services.

Eligibility:

  • Child must have a source of Medical Assistance.
  • Child must be a State of Wisconsin resident for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Child must be a resident of La Crosse County.
  • An eligible level of care must be established by the Children's Functional Screen.
  • A mental health diagnosis is required.
  • Ages birth to 17 years.

Children's Long Term Support Waivers for Mental Health

Description:

Children's Long Term Support Waivers for Mental Health provide supports to children with serious to severe mental health issues.  The program is designed to serve children with long term support needs.

  • Support and service coordination.
  • Utilize the informal supports of the family.
  • Link to community supports.
  • Link to support services, daily living skills, respite, and others.
  • Crisis support services.

Eligibility:

  • Child must be a State of Wisconsin resident for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Child must be a resident of La Crosse County.
  • An eligible level of care must be established by the Children's Functional Screen.
  • A mental health diagnosis is required.
  • Ages birth to 22 years.

There may be a parental fee.
