Mission
The CARE (Crisis Assessment, Recovery and Empowerment) Project formed in
early 2009 as a collaborative effort to improve the mental health and
substance abuse crisis system for adults in west central Wisconsin. In
light of the complex interactions between crisis system stakeholders –
including but not limited to advocates and consumers, county staff, law
enforcement, medical personnel and other service providers – the project
seeks to incorporate the input of these various entities in such a way
as to leverage the expertise of each while meeting the needs of all in a
mutually beneficial manner.
The project involves two separate but related components:
-
development of a mental health crisis and social detox center in La Crosse
-
development of a stronger network of community-based services and
supports to help individuals who need assistance with mental health and
substance abuse issues continue moving toward recovery.
Project planners anticipate an implementation date for both the crisis
center and Community Bridges during the first quarter of 2010.
