HIV/AIDS Program
The La Crosse County Health Department began an HIV/AIDS
program in 1985 offering counseling and testing at the STD clinic. The program
soon expanded into a designated AIDS Service Organization by the state of
Wisconsin, covering 6 counties in Western Wisconsin with an extensive education
program and case management for those infected.
The department changed the program in 1997 with the
transfer of case management and the majority of community education services to
the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin.
Currently, we continue to offer HIV testing services and
contracted educational programs as well as case follow up of those reported to
our department. In addition, staff are available to offer guidance on
policy and technical questions on the many issues surrounding HIV infection.
