Welcome to La Crosse County’s eNews. Our purpose is to keep the people of La Crosse County better informed about your County government.
County government has not always been as visible as some other levels of government.
So we’ll provide eNews you can use like upcoming dates for public hearings, health clinics and reminders about deadlines for dog licenses and ordinance changes. We’ll provide detailed information about our budget, highlights of innovations and achievements and updates about critical issues facing the County, like how certain actions of the State & Federal governments will affect County services and County property taxpayers.
We also want the people of our County to have a chance to learn more about the inner workings of County government by providing access to the Monthly Report to the County Board. On an alternating basis, roughly half the departments report each month on the most compelling statistics, activities and challenges confronting our staff working to provide the best in public service. Link to Monthly Reports.
We hope you find La Crosse County eNews helpful and informative. If you have any suggestions how to make it better, please let us know using our email links at the bottom.

Ho-Chunk
Nation and La Crosse County jointly announce support of
Greater La
Crosse Diversity Council
This week at a news
conference held at the Three Rivers House on Main Street in La Crosse a
group of 21 private, public, non-profit and community organizations
announced the formation of the Greater La Crosse Area Diversity
Council. La Crosse County and the Ho-Chunk Nation have provided the
lead support to this new organization, formed to provide an educational
and referral source to employers who are working on issues of workplace
and community diversity.
Speaking at the news conference
were John Holst, Legislator for the Ho-Chunk Nation, Maureen Freedland La
Crosse County Supervisor, Houa Vang personnel recruiter for Gunderson
Lutheran Health System and County Administrator Steve O’Malley.
Recruiting and retaining a
quality workforce to deliver quality services requires inclusive workplaces
and culturally competency. The need for a collaborative approach on
diversity was recognized by County Board Chairman Steve Doyle several years
ago and staff were encouraged to form an area wide Diversity Council with
other organizations. With the strong support and participation of
Supervisors Maureen Freedland and Sharon Hampson, the news conference
announcement fulfills this goal. Diversity of all types will be considered
including the areas of Disability.
Plans include bringing in
speakers, leading discussion groups, sponsoring training sessions and
conferences, and helping employers deal with recruiting and problem
solving. What can be done to share resources and learn from each other,
rather than each individual employer trying to do this on our own. The
other organizations represented in the Council are: Gunderson Lutheran
Health System, Western Technical College, UW-La Crosse Continuing Education
and Extension, City of Onalaska, Logistics Health Inc., YWCA of the Coulee
Region, Family Resources Inc., NAACP – La Crosse County Branch, Pathways to
Independence, Western Wisconsin Workforce Development Board, Franciscan
Skemp Healthcare – Mayo System, Vocational Rehab for Native Americans,
Workforce Connections, Wal-Mart Distribution Center of Tomah, Viterbo
University, School District of La Crosse, City of La Crosse, Hmong Mutual
Assistance and the 7 Rivers Region Diversity Collaboration Initiative.
As membership support grows,
the Council will host regular educational programs on inclusion strategies;
provide networking sessions for employees engaged in diversity initiatives
within their organizations; and, serve as a referral and educational
resource for individual members and the public. For more information on the
programming and activities of the Diversity Council, please call
608.785.6509 or email
hansen.andr@uwlax.edu The
Diversity Council meets monthly on the 2nd Tuesday of the month,
8:30-9:45 am. Council and membership information can be found at
