Household generated “Sharps” are accepted at the La Crosse County Hazardous Materials Facility FREE of charge from La Crosse County residents who treat themselves for medical conditions such as diabetes. (Business and out-of-county generated “Sharps” are accepted by appointment and for a fee.)
Only the following are accepted:
**NO mercury-bearing waste (thermometers, button/hearing aid batteries), chemotherapy waste, solid waste, hazardous waste or other regulated medical waste should be included in the sharps container.**
Place the “Sharps” in puncture resistant containers (either a registered red “Sharps” container or a thick plastic laundry detergent bottle). NOTE: If the “Sharps” are in a container other than the two listed above, they will not be accepted.
Label the container “SHARPS” and lock the lid.
Bring the container to the Hazardous Materials Facility.
Business and non-resident users will need to pre-register, make an appointment, and pay $1.50 per pound for “Sharps” disposal.
Call 785-9999 for operating hours or for more information.
The Hazardous Materials Facility is located at 6502 State Road 16 between Onalaska and West Salem.
