Speech Language Pathologists provide both evaluations and treatment to residents who have impairments in communication, cognition, and/or swallowing abilities.  In addition to facilitating return of independent communicative/swallowing skills, they develop augmentative communicative systems as needed. 

Common Diagnoses Include:

• Stroke/CVA

• Neurological Diseases such as Parkinson's Disease & ALS

• Multiple Sclerosis

• Dysphagia

• Head Injury

Treatments:

• Speech/Language Therapy

• Voice & Fluency Therapy

• Cognitive Retraining

• Swallowing Therapy

• Augmentative Communication

• Hearing Screenings

Therapy Goals:

• Achieve maximal utilization of communication skills

• Compensate for & improve functioning of cognitive skills

• Improve ability to safely eat through swallowing therapy

• Develop respiratory & vocal control for voice production

• Provide assistive & augmentative devices to facilitate communication

• To increase intelligibility of spontaneous speech
