FORECLOSURE ON PROPERTY:
On September 1, the La Crosse County Treasurer shall issue to the county a Tax
Certificate which includes all parcels of real property included in the tax roll for which
real property taxes, special assessments, and special charges remain unpaid at the close
of business on August 31. Notice of issuance of Tax Certificate shall be mailed by the La
Crosse County Treasurer to each owner of record as shown in the tax roll of property
included in the certificate that remain unpaid as of the date the notice is mailed. Two
years after the issuance of the Tax Certificate the county is entitled to start a
foreclosure of tax lien. This is done by "TAX DEED" or "IN REM."

SALE OF PROPERTY THE COUNTY
FORECLOSES ON:
- The county may sell tax delinquent foreclosed real estate by open or closed bid. The
property for sale must be published three times and have available the description and
appraised value. La Crosse County sells the foreclosed property by sealed bid and has a
minimum bid for the parcel. The information on the sale is in the La Crosse County
Treasurer's office when the sale is published.

WHO SENDS THE
TAX BILL AND WHEN AND WHERE ARE THEY PAID:
- The tax bills are sent out by the taxation district Treasurer. If you choose to pay your
taxes in installments, then you must pay each installment by the due date. The first half
is due on or before January 31, to the taxation district Treasurer. The second half is due
on or before July 31, to the La Crosse County Treasurer. If the tax is to be paid in full
you pay the taxation district treasurer on or before January 31. If an installment payment
is not paid by the due date, the total amount of your remaining unpaid taxes, special
assessments, and special charges will be delinquent. The City of La Crosse has the
quarterly payments and are due to the City Treasurer at City Hall by Jan. 31, March 31,
May 31, and July 31. If you choose to make quarterly payments you must make your payment
by the due date or your unpaid taxes will be delinquent. After July 31, the total amount
of your remaining unpaid taxes, special assessments and special charges will be delinquent
and then collected by the La Crosse County Treasurer's Office in the County Administrative
Center, Room 103.

DELINQUENT TAXES
- Delinquent taxes are subject to interest of 1% per month and an additional
penalty of
.5% per month from February 1, until paid. Personal property tax except improvements on
leased land must be paid in full by January 31, to the taxation district treasurer or
taxes are delinquent.
